Salicylic Acid for Hair Loss

Hello visitor! Thank you for taking the time to read this article.

I was having lunch with my Dad one afternoon when he mentioned a product he was using had stopped his hair loss. A few weeks earlier, he was having a little problem with dandruff and decided to see a dermatologist about it. This doctor recommended an over the counter product called "Scalpicin" to help control his flaking. After a few weeks of usage my Dad could find little to no hairs in the brush he regularly used. He knew this would be of interest to me since I was having my own struggles with keeping my hair.

After using this product myself for a few weeks, I notice my scalp was feeling healthier, my hair became softer and the fallout had slowed considerably. I was shocked. Up to this point I had tried many products, both prescription and natural, in my search for a product that would stop my hair loss. On looking into this further, I found that the active ingredient responsible for this wonder is called by the name of "Salicylic Acid".

Now this is as technical as this short writing will get, but "Salicylic Acid" is what they call a beta-hydroxy acid derived from the bark of the willow tree. Salix is Latin for willow tree. It is chemically similar to the active ingredient of aspirin, and has been used as an anti-inflammatory since ancient times. It exfoliates layers of dead skin, causing the cells of the skin to shed more readily and prevent pores from clogging up. It is often used in commercial lotions to treat acne, psoriasis, calluses, corns and warts. Because of its effects on skin cells, Salicylic Acid is also used in several shampoos used to treat dandruff. Neutrogena T-Sal is a very popular example.

After having used this product for over a year now, I am of the opinion that the salicylic acid found in Scalpicin will not block the DHT your body produces but is excellent in keeping your scalp clean. I have gone back to shedding again, although much less before using Scalpicin. Having said that, I have found nothing as effective as this product for maintaining a clean and healthy scalp. This product has also served to help my anti DHT product better absorb into my scalp. It can be purchased at any major chain store for about . a bottle. That's a pretty good deal for the money.

Another little gem I have found after dumping so much money into so called "hair loss shampoo", is Walgreen's own T+Plus 3% Salicylic Acid Shampoo. This is one of the best shampoos I have found, and I have tried a lot of them. It is also very reasonable at only around . a bottle. Give them a try; you will be glad you did.

Glycolic Acid Acne Treatment

Hello visitor! Thank you for taking the time to read this article.

Glycolic Acid acne treatment is a rather extreme and professional procedure used by dermatologists to treat acne. You will also find Glycolic Acid in beauty and skin care products but in smaller dosages that should not cause any side effects.

The reason that Glycolic Acid has and is used for acne treatment and in other beauty and skin care products is due to its ability to reach beneath the outer layer of skin. It's effective at unblogging your pores and getting rid of bacteria that has been found to be the cause of spots.

When used by dermatologists Glycolic Acid is often used as a chemical peel treatment, which can be rather unpleasant and is why you need professional supervision.

What is Chemical peel treatment?

Chemical peel treatments even sound painful and in practise can be too. They involve firstly cleansing the skin to remove any excess oil and then the Glycolic Acid is applied to the facial areas that require treatment.

After awhile the application forms a layer that can easily be removed. During this process though it can be quite painful and causes a burning sensation that can be quite unpleasant. The skin after peeling can be quite red and become blistered in appearance. Care needs to be taken after treatment and sometimes bandages and anti-bacterial medicine is used to prevent infection.

Glycolic Acid a home acne treatment?

Professional dermatologists regard Glycolic Acid acne treatment as unsuitable for home use due to the care and after-care supervision required. Keeping the Glycolic Acid on for too long or using too strong a Glycolic Acid solution is very dangerous. In fact, this type of acne treatment does not conform to FDA or EU safely levels and so should be avoided.

For this reason we would not recommend using this form of treatment unsupervised, if at all. Instead if you have mild to moderate acne that you wish to treat then there are over the counter acne products that can do the job.

Find Out How To Use Glycolic Acid Peels To Perfect Your Skin Condition

Hello visitor! Thank you for taking the time to read this article.

Known as an alpha hydroxy acid, glycolic acid is referred to as a substance that helps to shed old skin and bring out new unblemished skin. Apart from Glycolic acid, other AHAs like lactic acid and citric acid can be effortlessly used together in a face peel.

If you've tried all types of anti-aging treatments but haven't found them for being beneficial, you should consider the usage of glycolic acid peels. Glycolic peels can easily take care of conditions such as fine lines, hyperpigmentation or keratatoses (dry skin). Acne sufferers can benefit tremendously from the use of glycolic acid solutions . An explanation for tired looking skin is the fact that our skin struggles to renew itself over time due to the effects of sun exposure and human aging. Why do we end up looking old or haggard? When our dead or old skin cells are not replaced by newer skin cells . Glycolic acid peels can help in this area since they speed up the skin renewal process by causing dead skin to drop off from the surface of the skin . The results of glycolic acid peels are unmistakably visible to anyone who has done them: after your old skin has dropped off, your unsullied and glowy new skin will emerge.

As long as you utilize glycolic acid procedures consistently, you will see a big difference in your appearance . Glycolic acid works well in tandem with other skin renewal procedures like copper peptides, a renowned age reversal tool . Glycolic peels are terrific for people who don't have much time to dedicate for recovery at home. Unlike intensive procedures like dermabrasion or deep chemical peels, there is little to no downtime resulting from glycolic peels . Glycolic acid procedures are an ideal way to enhance acne prone skin and they are also known for reducing oil or shine over time as well .

How long do you require to perform a glycolic acid peel? Most likely around 5 to 15 minutes, depending on the concentration level used . Unlike phenol peels and other deep chemical peels, glycolic peels could be done on a weekly basis because they could be considered to be superficial peels . Always never begin with a very high concentration of glycolic acid. A 70% peel just isn't for newbies and is something you should work up to gradually by letting your skin get used to peels . When using glycolic acid on your face, be sure you avoid vulnerable areas like your nostrils or under-eye area. Let the acid stay on your face for a minute or so according to the intensity of the peel . The stinging brought on by glycolic acid can be somewhat painful but its absolutely manageable. After washing it off you may see that your skin is very red. This redness will disappear after a short time, more often than not within 12 hours or so. Should you want to venture out soon after a peel, make-up or concealer will likely be more than enough to hide any effects from the peel .

A milder form of glycolic acid treatment is the use of glycolic acid lotions or creams. These feature a weaker formulation of glycolic acid which allows it to be left on the skin for a long time, usually overnight when you sleep . You can put on a glycolic acid toner and then after waiting some time, layer on an anti-aging emulsion for additional advantages . If you are looking for a intermediate level peel with great results, you might want to select a glycolic peel of 50% or above. Fear not, glycolic acid just isn't known for causing acne problems and actually, can even help those with acne skin . But, keep in mind that glycolic acid peels may cause hyperpigmentation problems for those with dark skin . Do not worry about using glycolic peels. Why? Because they're quite safe and will only cause slight redness and skin scabbing, that's all. These are rather risk-free issues. When you're first doing glycolic peels, you can do them once weekly for a period of around 6 weeks. This helps significantly to condition your skin. After 6 weeks, you can actually slow down the peel schedule and do it once a month . Apart from some dried up and flaking skin in the course of the few days after a peel process, you shouldn't anticipate any other problems. You can recover from a glycolic peel considerably quickly without complications . So, what are the benefits of a terrific glycolic acid peel? You'll see extraordinary changes like smaller pores and lessened fine lines.. Glycolic acid peels do work. They have did the trick for many people. And most of the people do them consistently to upkeep their skin. Undertake a glycolic peel or two and you will know why everyone is raving about them!

Kojic Acid is a Natural Treatment for Hyperpigmentation

Hello visitor! Thank you for taking the time to read this article.

Many people suffer from hyper-pigmentation that is caused by skin disorders such as acne, eczema or allergic contact dermatitis. It can also be caused by skin damage from excessive exposure to the sun or normal aging brown spots and also can be a birthmark or freckles that a person dislikes. But whatever the cause, hyper-pigmentation can be very unattractive especially on the face as it causes you to have uneven skin tones that are unsightly and sometimes difficult to cover up with makeup. In Japan kojic acid has been used extensively as a skin lightener for hyper-pigmentation.

What are the Benefits of Kojic Acid?
Kojic acid is currently used in many skin care products that promote skin bleaching or lightening. It is a topical treatment that will be found in creams and lotions or soaps. The concentration level is usually around 1% to 4% as it can cause irritation to the skin if higher percentage levels are used. This means that kojic acid might not be the treatment needed for more pervasive levels of hyperpigmentation. It is known, however, to be effective to reduce freckles and other brown spots on the skin and regular use will lighten the skin.

Where Do You Get Kojic Acid?
Kojic acid is naturally derived from a fungus and is known to deter the enzyme tyrosinase that is an important player in producing melanin which promotes pigmentation in the skin. It combats and stops the production of melanin right at its root and counteracts the antioxidant properties of tyrosinase thereby reversing the excessive darkening of the skin.

You can buy kojic acid in its raw form, but it may cause damage to the skin if it is not diluted with a gel or cream as found in products for hyperpigmentation containing it. Although the Japanese consume kojic acid in their daily diet, it can cause irritation if used directly on the skin. Skin care products containing kojic acid can be found in department stores and skin care stores as well as online.

Side Effects of Kojic Acid
Overall kojic acid is very effective as a whitening agent to bleach the skin or reduce brown spots and other hyper-pigmentation issues and is found in many skin care products for this purpose. It is also used in some food products. It has been known to cause mild to severe skin irritation on some people and excessive use can cause contact dermatitis for some types of skin. This could mean itchy skin or a rash or redness. It can also become unstable if exposed to air or sunlight so some products use a compound of kojic acid called kojic dipalmitate that is considered more stable, however, its lightening effects are diminished and not as effective.

Often kojic acid is formulated with other ingredients to aid in the lightening process and to minimize any skin irritation. It is generally found in creams or soaps that use it in conjunction with other ingredients that minimize the harshness than if it was used alone. Vitamin C is often found with kojic acid that helps to provide more even skin tones and also provides protection from the UVA and UVB rays of the sun.

Recommended Usage of Kojic Acid
Before starting to use a skin care product with kojic acid, you should consult a dermatologist to discuss your hyper-pigmentation issues and possible treatment plans. You should always use a broad spectrum sunscreen when you use any kojic acid products as the skin may be more sensitive to the sun and the hyperpigmentation could be worsened without that protection.

Acne Acid - Better Known As Benzoyl Peroxide - An Acne Treatment

Hello visitor! Thank you for taking the time to read this article.

Many acne suffers struggle with knowing exactly how to use over-the-counter medications for acne treatment. Some types of acne will benefit from Benzoyl Peroxide, while some types of acne will require a multi-pronged approach to treatment. Laser light therapy, facials, extractions and so forth, are used in conjunction with benzoyl peroxide for the effective treatment of many types of acne. Understanding that there are many approaches to acne treatment, today we will focus on benzoyl peroxide as one option.

Benzoclear, - a benzoyl peroxide formulation in a gel base for maximum effectiveness, forms the foundation of treatment for all grades of acne. For grade I acne, Benzoclear is all that is needed. Basic therapy for all grades starts with mild doses and works up to the levels needed for complete clearing.

Maxiclear - contains all the most effective acne ingredients in one product to help rapidly treat inflamed areas. Maxiclear works in conjunction with Benzoclear. It is used as an overnight mask. It contains benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, salicylic acid, zinc oxide and alpha hydroxy acids (lactic and glycolic) in a gel base. This product goes deep into the pore to kill bacteria and cause the pores to rapidly exfoliate.

Applying Benzoclear

The first important question you must answer is where to apply the Benzoclear. "On my pimples" is wrong, let's clear up that common misconception which keeps thousands of acne sufferers from successful treatment.

Acne sufferers who rely on the instructions that come with over-the-counter medications often misunderstand how to apply benzoyl peroxide, for good reason. First of all, advertisements and labels for acne medications often talk about "drying up pimples", giving the impression that the medication is supposed to work on existing pimples to dry them up. So, users often dab the medication only on their blemishes. In truth, you can't do much about the advanced-stage pimples you can see on your face. They are a lost cause.

What you must do is keep future pimples from forming. Remember that it takes weeks for a pimple to develop. What you do today prevents a breakout several weeks from now. But because consumers don't understand this, they often dab the lotion just on their inflamed lesions. Benzoclear and Maxiclear often do help blooming pimples disappear a bit faster, but the primary benefit is their ability to stop pores from sludging up with dead skin cells, thereby preventing microcomedones from ever forming in the first place.

Remember that acne moves across your face in a predictable wave according to your age, first involving the forehead, chin and nose, then cheeks, and finally the jaw line and upper neck. The whole point of treatment is to stay ahead of that wave. Stop it where it is now; don't wait for it to migrate to other areas. Apply Benzoclear to affected areas, but also keep ahead of the wave by at least one inch. Remember that the first acne impactions are invisible, and just waiting to develop.

Now you are ready for your first application. Wash your face with foaming cleanser and water; then wait thirty minutes. Spread a film of Benzoclear lotion over the entire area that is now breaking out or likely to break out in the next few weeks. By "film" - there should be a visible application, not so thick as to flake off when it dries, but not so thin as to vanish.

General Rules and Precautions

Avoid eye area. The skin around the eyes is very sensitive. Pretend you are wearing large sunglasses and do not cover the area that would be hidden by the glasses. Benzoyl peroxide can irritate the eyes and cause the eyelids to temporarily swell. So don't inadvertently rub it into your eyes.

The neck is also especially sensitive to benzoyl peroxide. If you treat your neck, start slowly with a milder preparation.
Avoid sensitive areas around the nose and mouth. The small area just around and under your nostrils and also at the corners of your mouth can also easily be irritated. So avoid the triangular area bounded by the "smile lines" that go from your nose down to below the corners of your mouth.

Acne Treatment Products With Salicylic Acid

Hello visitor! Thank you for taking the time to read this article.

One of the most common ingredients in acne treatments these days is salicylic acid. acne treatments containing salicylic acid include body washes and facial treatments. Alongside benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid is used most widely among the different acne and skin care products. Lately, there has been an influx of manufacturers choosing to use salicylic acid instead of benzoyl peroxide in their products.

Salicylic acid in acne facial washes works by shedding dead skin cells. By stopping the clogging of pores that normally occurs when dead skin cells build up, acne products containing salicylic acid slows the shedding of cells inside follicles.

Salicylic acid also helps to dissolve blackheads and whiteheads. However, it must be used continually for it to be effective in keeping the skin acne free. Once you stop, pore clogging will start immediately. Salicylic acid does not kill bacteria, but it does break up clogged pores.

You may be wondering if there are any side effects from using salicylic acid on the skin. Some people complain that salicylic acid acne products dry out their skin. This is due to the fact that salicylic acid encourages peeling of the skin's top layer. This is the a common side effect to using products with salicylic acid, which can be easily treated with the application of a gentle moisturizer.

Since it absorbs through the skin and it is unknown how salicylic acid might affect an unborn baby, products containing salicylic acid should not be used during pregnancy.

With no exaggeration, there are hundreds of acne products containing salicylic acid. So when you're choosing a product, look for a concentration of salicylic acid between 1% and 2% for the best results. People with sensitive skin do best with a 1% salicylic acid solution, whereas people with more severe acne do better with a 2% salicylic acid solution.

Some of the leading acne treatments with salicylic acid include Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash, Neutrogena Body clear acne Body Wash (1%), Murad Acne Body Wash (2%) and Phisoderm Clear Confidence Acne Body Wash.
